Tidy desk versus creatively disorganised!

Can a designer’s desk ever be tidy whilst creatively engaged? Discuss. I think not if you are actually designing &  making at the same time, especially if you need lots of components! This is not computerised work. I would try to count the number of  different items on this table but I think life is just too short. Post me your views….

Vintage

Tattered Stones and friends (hopefully) will be at the South Bank on Friday 29th. Hope to see you there? And if your’re broke then head to the vintage market in the Jubilee Gardens car park – some things in life are free – browsing at least, though it’s bound to be tempting!

Autumn 2012 – wishing my life away!

The life of a fashion designer can be weird when it comes to the seasons. It’s July and I’m expected to predict and design coats for Autumn 2012! No wonder designers are neurotic about being up to or out of date as my Mum used to say ;-) . We always want whatever hasn’t yet been made and can’t wait for the current season to be over to get hold of what we’re currently lusting after!

So here’s a quick preview: think 60′s not 70′s, lots of leather & fur (fake please), a la Doctor Zhivago, and watch out for big buttons featuring heavily, rather than big belts & zips.

Rainflowers & tiger lilies

So despite it being only just past midsummer we seem to have lots of rain – good for flowers though. Tattered Stones jewellery is doing well with flowers recently – the artificial kind – corsage brooches. Of course corsages were originally worn by debs and prom princesses, and were always natural – though styled into very artificial arrangements. So here’s one of my latest ‘ rainflower’ brooches inspired more by the previously mentioned Cult of Beauty exhibition than anything growing in the garden at the moment. Dark, exotic and  definately not a summer wildflower, more a tattered tiger lily .

Midsummer flowers

It being June,  despite the rain,  I am finding inspiration in flowers. Normally one for the uber cultivated (eg. lilies) I found these lovely things growing at the end of a terrace… now how to interpret them?

If however, you prefer lilies, I recommend you visit this: http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/exhibitions/cult-of-beauty/

and also take a look at interesting images snapped at the Chelsea Flower Show at http://lydiaevansblog.com/category/flowers-2/

Press feature

Hi style searchers.

Pleased to say that I have got my first press feature for Tattered Stones very own jewellery & accessories line. The attached piece of gorgeousness, and maybe more if column space allows, is being featured in London glossy The Guide in the September issue, not that September Issue of course,

but hello  Vogue …… eat your heart out – you didn’t discover this one first!

Hello style searchers!

Keep on checking in for news from this art and style obsessed blog…..

I had a great time recently chatting with,  and being painted by, the lovely Lady Lucy, talented, interesting and charming. She specializes in portraits and is currently working with volunteers at the South Bank Art centre. Look her up sometime soon… http://www.beingll.com/wordpress/

So fellow arty bloggers, this is the first posting of my thoughts on life as a fashion & jewellery designer & artist to be ! Keep looking….. and leaving me feedback
